Even if you do not plan to stay at any of those hotels then Platinum status is still useful for status matches. A status match is where you ask another hotel loyalty program if they can grant a similar status level if their program as you enjoy in a rival program. The reason they are receptive to matching other status levels is because they want regular hotel users to switch to their program and regular users will be more inclined to switch if they will receive similar benefits to which they enjoy in the program they are leaving.
