Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) is a loyalty program for Starwood Hotels, and the currency is Starpoints.

The Starwood hotel family includes the following brands:

Starwood Preferred Guest has 7 categories of hotels.

At the lowest end, a category 1 hotel costs 2,000 Starpoints for a free weekend night and 3,000 Starpoints for a free night during the week.  The Four Points by Sheraton in Zagreb, Croatia is an example of a category 1 hotel.

At the highest end, a category 7 hotel costs 35,000 Starpoints for a free night in a standard room in high season. The W Hotel in Paris, France is an example of a category 7 hotel.

 

Starwood Preferred Guest Double Take Promo

The Double Take promotion offers double Starpoints on all eligible stays from 1 May through 31 July 2013 at participating Starwood hotels and resorts worldwide. Elite-level extra Starpoint earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar earnings are doubled. There is no limit to the number of bonus Starpoints that can be earned during the promotion period.  Disappointingly there is a fairly long list of hotels that are not participating in this promotion, which can be found here. The United Kingdom non-participating hotels are,

• The Lanesborough, a St. Regis Hotel, London

This promotion is also restricted to stays at an ‘Eligible Rate’, which is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. So certain prepaid rooms, where the booking is made through a third party (including travelocity.com, expedia.com, orbitz.com and delta.com), are not eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify for this promotion.

You also receive 500 additional bonus Starpoints for each eligible booking made through spg.com mobile site, the SPG App for iPhone, or the SPG App for Android.

Bonus Starpoints will post within 2 to 4 weeks after the qualifying stay posts.
